The old-fashioned drugstore was opened by James A. Patterson in 1926, and little has changed in the years since. The original soda fountain, marble countertop, and antique photo booth are still there/
Elain Hobday is the third owner having bought it from George Karos several years ago. She has kept many of the originial features offering customers the opportunity to step back in time to a place where the local drug store was also the local fountain shop.
One of the first things Martinsburg natives who no longer live here do when they return is to visit Pattersons and order a JoJo.
Here's what one returning native said: Every time I come home to visit Martinsburg, I stop in and have a "JoJo." I sit up at the old counter and enjoy a combination of Vanilla ice cream, Peanut butter mixed with chocolate fudge and marshmallow topping! I LOVE this place and there is a reason that it's been in business since 1926! (quote from review on TripAdvisor)
We use Pattersons for the prescription service. They deliver plus call us if we miss a refill -- top notch service. Which is why they are thriving despite the big chains that are taking over.
Pattersons is part of the history of this area. Be sure to visit for a trip down memory lane. There's tons of old Martinsburg photos and of course, you'll want to order a JoJo!
