Fishing Spots & Swimming Holes

We've got 3 rivers (The Potomac, The Shenandoah and The Cacapon Rivers) which are great for fishing, swimming and boating. But there's also lots of creeks, ponds, & streams in the Eastern Panhandle. Here's some spots for fishing or going for a swim. So check these out:

Trout Fishing

Berkeley County Middle Creek

Stream Middle Creek

Location Stocked from the WV Secondary Rt. 30 bridge upstream to WV Secondary Rt. 30/5 bridge, about one mile south of Arden. WV Secondary Rt. 30 follows the stream.

Stocking Information  Stocked once in January, twice in February, and weekly March through May

Berkeley County Mill Creek

Stream Mill Creek

Location Stocked from WV Secondary Rt. 24 bridge, east of Gerrardstown, downstream 5 miles to WV Secondary Rt 26 bridge, one miles east of Bunker Hill. The upper section can be reached by WV Route 51, east of Gerrardstown. U. S. Rt. 11 crosses the lower section

Berkeley County Mill Run

Location Stocked from 1/2 mile above the mouth at the WV Secondary Rt. 7 bridge, upstream 3.5 miles to Jones Spring. WV. Secondary Rt. 7 follows the stream.

Location Stocked from the end of WV Secondary Rt. 28/3 road approximately 2 miles from the Virginia line, which is situated about three miles east of Ridgeway, downstream at access points to WV Secondary Rt. 12 near Bedington. Located in Berkeley and Jefferson co

Berkeley County Tilhance Creek

Location Stocked from near Johnstown at the WV Rt. 9 bridge upstream 3 miles to the WV Secondary Rt. 23 bridge.

Berkeley County Tuscarora Creek

Location Stocked from Martinsburg to a half mile above the WV Secondary Rt. 15 bridge, upstream of Nollville. WV Secondary Rt. 15 follows the stream.

Stocking Information Stocked once in February and once every two weeks from March through May

1. Sleepy Creek - Morgan County. 44.0-mile-long tributary of the Potomac River in the United States, belonging to the Chesapeake Bay's watershed. The stream rises in Frederick County, Virginia, and flows through Morgan County, West Virginia before joining the Potomac

2. Tilhance Creek - Hedgesville WV. Trout Fishing. 10.4-mile-long tributary stream of Back Creek in Berkeley County of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle

3. Opequon Creek - Berkeley County. 64.4-mile-long tributary stream of the Potomac River. It flows into the Potomac northeast of Martinsburg in Berkeley County, West Virginia, and its source lies northwest of the community of Opequon at the foot of Great North Mountain in Frederick County, Virginia.

4. Tuscarora Creek - Berkeley County. 11 miles long. Trout Fishing. Stocked from Martinsburg to a half mile above theWVSecondary Rt. 15

5. Middle Creek - Berkeley County. 9.7-mile-long (15.6 km) tributary of Opequon Creek, belonging

to the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay watershed.

6. Back Creek - Berkeley County. 59.5-mile-long (95.8 km)[1]tributary of the Potomac River that meanders northeast through the community ofShanghai. From Shanghai, Back Creek continues to be fed by spring streams off North Mountain. With North Mountain bounding it to the east, Back Creek continues northeast, lined by several communities, including Tomahawk, Hedgesville, and Soho. The Park's Gap Bridgecrosses Back Creek at Tomahawk. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.[2]
